about us

John Clarkson:

A graduate of the Otago Medical School (N.Z.), John has been a General Practitioner (Rural and Metropolitan) and Analytical Psychotherapist in Perth, Western Australia over the past 25 years.

During his career, he has been at the forefront of change within the medical marketplace, as an innovator, healthcare consultant, lecturer and recently author of the book, “The Dream Not Yet” (a demystification of Psychotherapy).

Currently, he consults in the fields of Psychiatric Disorders and Psychotherapy, while pursuing his main areas of interest, namely – Mood Disorders and their co-morbid conditions (with particular reference to Adult ADHD and Bipolar Spectrum Disorders), Neuro-science and functioning Brain Imaging (SPECT).

John endeavours to approach his clinical practice in the most scientific manner possible, often incorporating the Global Mind Screen (Mind Screen) and functional Brain Imaging into the diagnostic process in order to gain greater insight into the patient's condition. This in turn assists him in formulating a tailor-made treatment program. The net result of this method has seen the often-difficult patient group who have been put into the “too hard basket” or labeled "treatment resistant” actually achieve positive clinical outcomes!

Over the last five years, Dr Clarkson has turned his endeavours to address, in part, the worldwide crisis in Mental Health. Subsequently, he became the co-founder and Non-Executive Director of the Global Mind Screen Group and architect of the Global Mind Screen (GMS) - a patient self-assessment Psychiatric Diagnostic Screening tool. The GMS is already released in Australia and is currently expanding into New Zealand and the United States, with expectations of other countries to follow suit in 2008.

Welcome to the
Neuro-Diagnostic Centre
- dedicated to the advancement of Psychiatric Diagnosis and Management “Providing a neuro-scientific approach to modern psychiatry”

Philosophy:

The Neuro-Diagnostic Centre was established in an attempt to address the often-poor outcomes that exists in the treatment of patients with mental health disorders.

Notwithstanding the best endeavours of all to relieve the suffering of those with emotional and behavioural disturbances, statistics continue to reflect patient treatment failures, medication non-compliance and finally, ever increasing suicide, psychiatric consultation and hospital admission rates.

The Neuro-Diagnostic centre's goal is to maximise the clinical skills of its personnel through advancing their own areas of interests within the field of psychiatry, continuing medical education and through constant contact with like-minded professionals locally, nationally and internationally.

Likewise, the Neuro-Diagnostic Centre endeavours to inject into psychiatry an advancing scientific approach to patient diagnosis and management by the utilization of technology now available- the Global Mind Screen and functional Brain Imaging (SPECT Scans). These modalities of investigation provide the clinician with a broader base of information, understanding and insight into their patient’s condition, thereby allowing a more informative, skilled and tailor-made approach to each individual patient’s problems and management.

Finally, it is the resolve of all at the Centre to approach every patient in a professional and compassionate manner in a collective effort to relieve their suffering and hopefully bring happiness into their life, be it at home, work or leisure.
