A New Dimension in Mental Health Evaluation:

he Global Mind Screen™ (Mind Screen) is a unique software program for patient self-assessment in the area of mental health. It has been designed to allow the patient, in a nonclinical and less pressured environment to answer a series of questions related to their emotions, how they are feeling and how they respond in certain situations.

Once undertaken the Mind Screen records the patient’s responses to highly selected emotional and psychological questions related to their medical history, (present, past, medication and family), in order to formulate a comprehensive individual provisional Diagnostic Profile. It also allows input of medical therapies and medication and includes a process of ongoing assessment currently unavailable to general or psychiatric medical practice.

The Mind Screen is performed on a personal computer (connected to the Internet) in a dedicated clinic environment with a qualified support person to assist those unfamiliar with computers or may have other difficulties. To a series of questions, the patient responds via simple mouse clicks. A typical test takes about 20 - 30 minutes depending on responses.

The uniqueness of the computer program that underpins the Mind Screen is its ability to be “adaptive,” operating in a similar manner to the clinical consultation, where the doctor follows a line of questioning dependant upon the patient’s symptoms. Once an active symptom complex is elicited, the adaptive nature of the Mind Screen focuses on the patient’s positive responses and asks further questions to define the extent and severity of that problem. The patient, in a quiet environment, free from many of the impediments and constraints which exist within the consultation process is able to move through the program at their own pace, without interruption or “a raised eyebrow.” In this way the Mind Screen which usually takes less than a half of an hour to complete, is neither threatening nor judgmental, but purely objective.

On completion of the Mind Screen the software generates a confidential comprehensive Provisional Diagnostic Report that presents the practitioner with qualitative and quantitative information on the patient’s psychological / psychiatric profile, together with their past, family and medication histories, to allow a future consultation to proceed with greater knowledge and insight.

The product also incorporates a Continuous Monitoring Function that provides the practitioner with an audit trail (written and graphic) to follow-up their prescribed treatment programs, therapies, and medication. This comparative method of patient clinical and medication evaluation is essential for maximising patient care and obtaining the best possible outcome for the patient.

Importantly, the Mind Screen can play a significant role in future medical research and data collection. This activity will generate, due to its widespread application in the medical market place, a large pool of medical knowledge for advancement and improvement of patient care.

Furthermore, the adaptive nature of the Mind Screen allows it to be used in all sub-branches of medicine (Cardiology, Respiratory and Drug and Alcohol Addiction) and has the potential for application across many markets including Human Resources (pre-employment assessment, performance monitoring and personality profiling) and for Government, institutions and business with applications in management strategies, insurance, prisons, law enforcement, military, security, and immigration.
